The Chef
Chef Steven Jarrett has 20 years of cooking experience. He began his career in Dallas at the Hotel Crescent Court and The Mansion. In 1990, he began his cooking adventure at The Courtyard Grill in Austin. The next year in New Orleans, Bella Luna and Mike's on the Avenue benefited from his expertise. Beginning in 1992, Steven worked in fine kitchens such as the enchanting Galisteo Inn and Geronimo. During Steven's sojourn at Geronimo, the restaurant won Best entrée 1996 and Best entrée and Grand Prize 1997 Taste of Santa Fe, and he was invited to cook at the honorable James Beard Society in NYC. After the birth of his first daughter he enjoyed cooking and teaching the lighter side of his cuisine at Vista Clara Ranch in Galisteo.
In 2000 Steven decided to plunge into a new project, and just months after opening, Tulips was selected by Condé Nast Travelers "Hot List" as one of the "Top 100 New Restaurants in the World."
As Steven is the chief prep and line cook, one can feel assured that each meal is being personally prepared.
The Restaurant
Tulips is located in a 100-year-old historic home transformed into a welcoming contemporary cottage setting. The original pine plank floorboards offer a rustic charm, while paintings by local artists adorn the walls of three intimate dining rooms. The ambiance, though elegant, remains relaxed and unpretentious. Reservations go quickly with only 15 tables.
With mouth-watering dishes, fresh ingredients and a sophisticated wine list, the menu draws on local ingredients and traditions while retaining a modern perspective that focuses on the fresh, healthy, international and whimsical.
Tulips is committed to high quality gourmet dishes and a frequently changing menu that keeps guests inspired and intrigued.
The exceptional front-of-house staff caters to guests' needs with warmth, professionalism and a deep knowledge of and love for wine and Jarrett's exquisite food.
